· Born as the second child into a family of minor nobility on the island of Hinomoto, Souji's elder sister was groomed to take over the family estate. Souji was still a young child when their parents both died while out to sea and his sister struggled to keep their estate in hand (having inherited their parents massive debts, thus leaving them with little to no means of support), until Souji was finally taken into custody of one of the many military training schools struggling to remain open. He grew up under the Kondo's watchful eye and it was to him that Souji was really loyal. · As tensions began to increase at the island's capital, their school was renamed the 'Shinsengumi' and were given dispensation to become a special police force that answered to the head of the military faction of government. Within a couple of years, tensions escalated into full-blown civil war and the Shinsengumi fought for the military faction determined to keep the island isolated from interacting with the mainland. · Despite their best efforts, their side of the war continually lost ground, until the Shinsengumi were forced to flee to the mainland themselves, where they sought to join the Grey Wardens in penance for their failures. · The Joining process killed over half of their members, however, and this additional loss was such that they felt they had no choice but to remain on the mainland to fulfill their duties as Wardens, occasionally adding people to their small unit as they came across those that seemed able to survive the Joining. · They've been patrolling primarily throughout the Free Marches for the last three years, until they heard about the people gathering at Haven for a conclave...
